I have two Macs, one is an iMac and the other a MacBook Pro. Both with ThunderBolt and I want to use Target Display Mode to use the display on MacBook Pro as an external monitor for the iMac.To clarify I want to use the software, apps, data stored on the iMac. I want to use this as the computer and use the display in the MacBook Pro as an external monitor.I can only find instructions going the other way, using the MacBook Pro as the computer and the display in the iMac as an external monitor for the laptop.I have it working with the MacBook Pro as the computer using the iMac just as an external display. But the reverse doesn't seem to work.Any ideas?

Hi Strung,Because I want to use the iMac software and data and use the MacBook Pro monitor to extend my desktop so I can have palettes and other windows on the secondary display.I want the iMac to be the primary, and use the display in the laptop / MacBook Pro as the external monitor (not use the computer part within the laptop). The second link you sent is a completely different thing. That's Target Disk Mode for mounting the hard drive a Mac on the desktop of another Mac. I'm referring to Target DISPLAY Mode.Thanks.

Use a startup keyboard shortcut: This is the simplest way to start up a Mac in Target Display Mode; it will work with any Mac that has a functioning keyboard. Its only drawback is if your keyboard isn’t working. In addition, some third-party wireless keyboards may have a problem with keyboard shortcuts at startup.
